The Emory Corporate Governance and Accountability Review (“ECGAR”) is currently accepting submissions for a special edition dedicated to the rule of law. The rule of law is facing serious challenges—both in the United States and around the globe. In response, ECGAR is publishing this special issue to stress the importance of safeguarding legal institutions, democratic norms, and the foundational principles of accountability and justice. We believe it is the responsibility of every nation, political leader, and individual to defend and promote the rule of law. We interpret the rule of law topic broadly, and we invite submissions exploring any aspect of the rule of law. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
Historical and evolving interpretations of “due process” in constitutional law;
Comparative law analysis on the application of the rule of law in different countries;
Intersectionality of environmental justice and rule of law principles;
The global rise of populism and its impact on political and legal institutions;
The creation of the “Department of Government Efficiency” under President Donald Trump;
Executive actions undermining disparate impact claims;
Political targeting of law firms and institutions of higher education; and
- Continued rhetorical and policy-based attacks on democratic institutions.
